Q: I read that one should be able to hear his recitation of surah fatiha in salah, otherwise the salah is invalid. Is it true?
A: One should be able to hear oneself in whatever is recited in Salaah, not only Surah Faatihah. Lip movement without sound or reciting in the mind does not suffice. One must recite in an audible manner for the Salaah to be valid. If someone else is performing Salaah close to you or you are in a Masjid, do not recite so loud that the person close by becomes disturbed by your recital. (Raddul Muhtaar V3 P476)
